Lifeline Service

LIFELINE SERVICE & LINK UP PROGRAM

The Federal Communications Commission has established two programs to make telecommunications service more affordable to eligible customers. Lifeline Service is a program designed to make voice or broadband service meeting minimum service standards available at reduced rates to eligible residential customers. Customers’ eligibility to receive the discount must be renewed annually. Eligible Link-Up consumers receive a one-time initial hook-up discount of 100% up to $100.

WHO QUALIFIES?

To be eligible you must participate in at least one of the following programs:

    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
    • Medicaid
    • Federal Public Housing Assistance
    • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit Program
    • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
    • Income is at or less than 135% of the federal poverty level. Customer provides sufficient proof of income as set forth in 47 C.F.R. §54.400(f).
    • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
    • Tribally-Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TTANF)
    • Head Start Programs (only applicant or customer who satisfies the income qualifying eligibility provision)

Oklatel Communications, Inc. (Oklatel) offers Lifeline Service at a reduced rate. Lifeline customers can also subscribe to optional services at the same rate offered to other customers.

Lifeline service is a non-transferable benefit, and a Lifeline subscriber is prohibited from transferring the Lifeline service to another, including another person eligible for Lifeline service. Lifeline service is limited to one discount per household.

WHAT UNIVERSAL SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL CUSTOMERS?

Universal Services available to all Oklatel customers include: voice grade access to the public switched network or its functional equivalent; minutes of use for local service provided at no additional charge to the customer; access to emergency services (911); and toll limitation for qualifying low-income consumers.
